A cage nut combines a nut, that is most commonly square, enclosed within a spring steel cage that surrounds it. The cage features two wings that, when squeezed, enable insertion into square openings, often found in equipment rack mounting rails. Once the wings are let go, they secure the nut firmly in place behind the opening.
